Micromax has announced the latest iteration of Android, Lollipop, for the Canvas series of devices. The Canvas Xpress is the first device to get the update. The company said it will be rolling out the 5.0 Lollipop update to other devices soon, but hasn’t specified any other device yet.
In a press statement, Micromax spokesperson said, “As a brand, we are committed to keep our customers delighted with best in class technologies and experience. Riding on the same thought, we are today rolling out the Android L update with Canvas Xpress, making the overall user experience more efficient and seamless.”
Micromax has already released an over-the-air (OTA) update for Android 5.0 Lollipop. Users will get a notification informing them about the update when they connect to the Internet. If you haven’t got an alert yet, you can manually check by going to Settings > About phone > Software update on the Canvas Xpress.
Micromax had launched the Canvas Xpress in December for Rs 6,999. It sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA (480x854p) IPS display and comes powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MTK6582V/X quad core processor coupled with 1GB RAM.
The dual SIM smartphone comes with 8GB onboard storage and a microSD card slot up to 32GB. One can also expect a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 0.3MP front-facing camera. The connectivity options include 3G, Wi-fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
Micromax has timed its Lollipop update announcement just when other budget players have started launching devices running Android Lollipop. The most recent has been Intex with its Aqua Star L priced at Rs 6,990.
