Google Maps for Android and iOS now gets Material Design
Google has redesigned its popular Maps app for Android and iOS. The new look now follows the company’s Material Design theme.
It now looks more bright and vivid. Google claims ‘with Google Maps new material feel, layers and buttons come to life so you know just where to touch to get directions, recommendations and imagery’. However, its not just about the looks, Google has also spruced up the functionality with some really cool features.
To begin with, you will find an info sheet at the bottom of your screen that brings all your photos, reviews, and more in one single view. Foodies looking for a place to dine and even make a last-minute dinner reservation. You can book a table directly from Google Maps app for restaurants found on OpenTable. However, that’s currently available only in the US.
It also helps with commute by letting you view the estimated Uber time, price for that route and more. “Travellers deciding whether they should take an Uber or brave the frosty winds can now see estimates for Uber’s pickup time and price for their route in walking and transit directions in Google Maps.” This option will appear if you have the Uber app installed, where available, Google writes in the official blog.
Android and iOS users can download Google Maps from the Play store and Apple App store, respectively.
