After reassuring the Chinese government that its smartphones do not have security loopholes for US agencies to access information, Apple finally put up the iPhone 6 on pre-order in China. The device will start shipping on October 17, just like in India.
Now, news has it that the iPhone 6 pre-orders in China are on fire. Citing Tencent news, a report by Fortune states that three Chinese carriers have managed to get over a million pre-orders in mere six hours namely, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom.
Apple’s China website has also begun taking pre-orders along with 6,700 authorized resellers. The report further states that Chinese website, JingDong, had registered over 9 million reservations, which is a kind of pre-pre-order. The registration numbers reportedly show that the iPhone 6 Plus is slightly preferred over the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model.
Earlier this week, a Forbes report had also highlighted that the iPhone 6 is getting an overwhelming response in China.
According to the previous report, Apple had received 2.8 million iPhone 6 pre-orders as of 11 pm Friday Beijing time, last week. The figures rose to 2.93 million by 7:30 am by last Saturday and further 4.85 million by 2 PM. Using details from JD.com, a website that tracks Apple orders in real-time, Forbes’ Chuck Jones has formed a Google Docs showing that Apple’s iPhone 6 has received an overwhelming response in China.
This doesn’t come as a surprise as there have already been reports stating how buyers from China, who were deprived of the latest iPhone launch at home earlier, were among the first in line in Japan to grab the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Apple has also started taking iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders in India. While people are known to stand in long queues to grab the new iPhone, the company has also partnered with online retailers Infibeam, Flipkart and Amazon to sell the plush devices.
