AMD has announced many new inexpensive desktop CPUs under its Ryzen 5000 and Ryzen 4000 series, after the announcement of the Ryzen 6000 series processors at CES 2022 earlier this year. These processors are based on the Zen 2 and Zen 3 architectures and have lower clock rates than the company’s higher-end CPUs. So, let’s take a deeper look at AMD’s latest products.
AMD Introduces Low-Cost Ryzen Processors for PCs
Ryzen 5000 Series Processors
It begins with the Zen 3-based 5000-series CPUs and progresses to the Ryzen 7 5700X, Ryzen 5 5600, and Ryzen 5 5500 CPUs.
The top-tier Ryzen 7 5700X CPU has 8 cores and 16 threads, with base and peak clock speeds of 3.4GHz and 4.6GHz, respectively. It has a total cache size of 36MB, a TDP of under 65W, and supports Gen 4 PCIe storage. Despite its low TDP, the CPU does not have a cooling unit. It costs $299 (about Rs 22,804).
The Ryzen 5 5600 is essentially a scaled-down version of the 6-core/ 12-thread 5600X, with clock frequencies of up to 4.4GHz and a total cache of 35MB. This one, too, is built on the company’s Zen 3 architecture and has 65W of TDP as well as a Wraith Stealth cooling unit. The price is $199 (Rs 15,177).
The lowest-end Ryzen 5 5500, like its elder sister, features a 6-core/ 12-thread architecture with a Wraith Stealth cooling package. It does, however, have slower base and peak clock speeds of 3.6GHz and 4.2GHz, respectively. It also has less cache support, with only 19MB of total cache available. In addition, unlike the higher-end variants, the Ryzen 5 5500 supports Gen 3 PCIe storage and prices $159 (Rs 12,126).
Ryzen 4000 Series Processors
The Ryzen 4000 CPU family now has three additional models: the Ryzen 5 4600G, the Ryzen 5 4500, and the Ryzen 3 4100. The CPUs are based on the Zen 2 architecture and the Renoir APU lineup from the company.
The top-tier Ryzen 5 4600G CPU has a 6-core/ 12-thread configuration with base/boost clock speeds of 3.7GHz/4.2GHz, respectively. It also features an AMD Radeon GPU incorporated, thus the “G” designation in its name. It has 11MB of cache, a TDP of 65W, and a Wraith Stealth cooling. The CPU is priced at $154 (Rs 11,745).
The Ryzen 5 4500 is a 6-core/12-thread CPU, similar to the 4600G. However, it lacks an integrated GPU and has somewhat lower base/boost clock speeds of 3.6GHz/4.1GHz. Aside from these differences, it is equivalent to the 4600G in terms of total cache and TDP. It costs $129 (about Rs 9,838).
Finally, the Ryzen 3 4100 is the line’s entry-level CPU, with a 4-core/8-thread architecture and base/boost clock frequencies of 3.8GHz/4.0GHz. It has 6MB of cache, a TDP of 65W, and a Wraith Stealth cooled unit. And, based on its lower-end specifications, the CPU is just $99 (Rs 7,550).
Additional Announcements
Aside from these, AMD has published price and availability information for its Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU, which was launched earlier this year at CES.
The company announced that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU, which has AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology and a large 96MB of L3 cache, will be available for purchase on April 20 for $449 (Rs 34,244).
Additionally, AMD has confirmed that Ryzen 5000 and 4000 series CPUs would be compatible with its 300 series chipset motherboards like as the X370, B350, and A320 models. The beta BIOS upgrades required to enable these newest CPUs with these motherboards will be released in April via the motherboard manufacturer’s websites.
