5 Best Smartphones [June, 2014]

Apple

Consumers who are looking for a smartphone this month and aren’t tied to a particular operating system or manufacturer are going to have a ton of options to choose from. We want to help make the search a little bit easier and here, we take a look at the devices we think are the five best smartphones for the month of June.
2014 got off to a slow start but as we’ve started moving towards the fall, we’ve seen the 2014 smartphone lineup start to fill out. In March, the HTC One M8 hit shelves to the delight of Android users. In April, we saw the Samsung Galaxy S5 arrive in the United States and elsewhere, and since then we’ve seen Motorola release the Moto E and Moto G, cheap devices aimed at those that don’t want to shell out a ton of money for a quality smartphone.

These, of course, joined a loaded roster of smartphones that includes devices like the Moto X, LG G2, Galaxy Note 3, Nexus 5, Galaxy S4, Nokia Lumia Icon, Nokia Lumia 1520, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5 and a whole lot more. Those are honestly just the tip of the iceberg.

While it’s nice to have a lot of choice, the sheer amount of options can be overwhelming for many consumers, especially those that don’t keep tabs on the smartphone world.

With that in mind, we want to help narrow things down for those that may not know what to look for. So, in an effort to help those who might need some help picking out a new device, we breakdown the devices we think are the five best smartphones overall for the month of June, 2014.

Our list may differ from yours but these are the devices that TechTrainIndia editors have selected for recognition this month. We feel like the devices listed here deliver the best, all-around package at the moment.

1) iPhone 5s

Now that WWDC 2014 is over and done with, it’s pretty clear that the iPhone 6 release will land some time in the fall. What this means is that the iPhone 5s will remain Apple’s top option for the month of June and for the foreseeable future. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

While the price of the iPhone 5s hasn’t seen a significant drop since it was released back in September, it’s still a device that lives up to its premium price point.

Its industrial design, Retina Display, 8MP iSight camera, 64-bit processor, and iOS 7 software should help to put the iPhone 5s near the top of shoppers lists during the month of June and beyond.
Apple may not be offering a discount but we’re starting to see retailers slash the price of the iPhone 5s, so be on the look out for tasty deals.

2) Samsung Galaxy S5

Rumors state that we could see a premium metal Samsung Galaxy S5 arrive later this year but until that day arrives, the current Galaxy S5 will be one of our favorite Android smartphones.

After spending quality time with the Galaxy S5, we consider it to be one of the best Android smartphones currently on the market. With an improved camera, design that is water and dust resistant, beautiful display, and upgraded software, the Galaxy S5 is a device that should be on every Android shoppers list.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 should get two solid years of software support which means that it’s a device that it’s worth investing in.

Oh and it helps that it’s getting cheaper.

3) Nexus 5

With a Nexus 6 release reportedly dead in the water for 2014, the Nexus 5 is going to be sticking around for awhile. And that’s not a bad thing. This is one of the premier Android smartphones on the market and one of the best smartphones overall.

The company’s current Nexus flagship delivers a fantastic design along with a high-resolution full HD display, quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 8MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, Android 4.4 KitKat, and an extremely cheap price tag.

It also gets updates directly from Google, a perk that doesn’t come with many of the top Android smartphones on the market. The Nexus 5 is a device that needs to be on your radar in the month of June.

4) HTC One M8

The HTC One M8 is as good as last year’s HTC One M7 which was considered by many to be one of the best smartphones of all time. So it should come as no surprise that its listed here amongst the best smartphones money can buy.

The new version of the HTC One comes with a premium metal design though HTC has added a microSD card slot for expanded storage. It also comes with a fantastic camera, HTC BoomSound speakers, a larger 5-inch 1080p display, and new motion gestures that work in conjunction with the device’s Sense 6 software.

It’s available on all four of the United States’ major carriers including Verizon, it comes with an affordable price tag and it’s a device that should have your attention as you look for a new smartphone during the month of June.

5) Nokia Lumia Icon

The Nokia Lumia Icon is an extremely solid Windows Phone that resides on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. It’s also our top pick on Microsoft’s platform.

We like the Lumia Icon for a number of reasons. First, it offers buyers an excellent camera experience. Nokia is known for its great cameras and this phone doesn’t disappoint. In addition to that, it comes with great audio, great build quality, and Verizon’s massive 4G LTE network.

The device is affordable and it’s a solid alternative to the iOS and Android-powered smartphones that litter the landscape at the moment. Don’t underestimate this smartphone, especially with Windows Phone 8.1 on the way.
