Last month, HTC had pulled the wraps off the Desire 816 in the Indian market, and said it would be available in the coming weeks. Now, the smartphone is available for grabs via several online retailers starting at Rs 23,029. It is available on Flipkart for Rs 24,999, Infibeam for Rs 24,450 and Saholic for Rs 23,029.
It would compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, Motorola Moto X and the Gionee Elife E7. However, its biggest competition is the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual, which happens to have very similar specifications as well.
The HTC Desire 816 is a good looking phone. It’s built mostly of plastic and feels a bit cheap to hold, but then again, it’s designed to be a budget handset. The large 5.5-inch SLCD 2 display has a decently dense pixel resolution (HD). Images and text are sharp and vivid. You get a host of goodies from the One series as well like Sense 6.0 and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. There’s also BoomSound thanks to the dual speakers up front.
The HTC Desire 816 is a dual-SIM handset where one SIM is for GSM while the other supports CDMA. There’s also a microSD card slot. The 816 is aesthetically very pleasing and comes with a good feature set for it to stand on its own. Read our first impressions of HTC Desire 816 to know.
