Samsung Galaxy S5 hits the market today and if the teardown report from iFixit is anything to go by then the DIY clan are in for a tough time. The site which is known for ‘repairability’ reports has given the Samsung flagship a middling score of 5 out of 10, which is still better than what the HTC One M8 got.
The website has called the Galaxy S5 difficult to repair and one of the reasons for it could be that the smartphone’s water and dust-resistant abilities. The most difficult component to deal with is the 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display. It is glued to the panel with considerable amount of adhesive which makes it tricky to dismantle.
The easiest component to remove is the phone’s battery which you can access by simply removing the back panel. One of the highlights of the S5 is its heart rate monitor located beneath the 16-megapixel camera module.
The 16GB flash storage in the S5 comes from Samsung, while the 2GB RAM is from Elpida. Overall, barring the display, rest of the components are quite easily replaceable. Watch this video from iFixit to see what you can expect when you open up your shiny new Galaxy S5.
The final score of 5 out of 10 indicates that repairing Samsung Galaxy S5 won’t be that easy. A flagship smartphone with a repair score less than that of its predecessor Galaxy S4 and rival iPhone 5S does not augur well for the company, though at least it’s better than the HTC One.
