With 4 years of software updates, Oppo will rival Samsung with its 4-year update cycle. It comes after OnePlus recently announced plans to provide 4 years of updates, but are currently limited to some devices in 2023. Here’s what Oppo has to offer.
Oppo is offering extended updates
From 2023 onwards, Oppo will release four major ColorOS updates and five years of security updates. Like OnePlus, this update cycle will be available for select flagship phones. We can expect the upcoming Find X series phone to be included. Even the recently released Oppo Find N2 series could receive updates for four years.

We are still determining if this new update cycle will include new Android versions. Still, Oppo says there will be four years of ColorOS updates for global users. Considering the new update policy of ColorOS, there’s a good chance that new ColorOS iterations will come out regularly. Still, they’ll be based on older Android versions. For instance, Oppo might release ColorOS 14 based on Android 13.
Although Samsung already offers users four years of major Android updates, this new update will give it a neck-to-neck competition. More OEMs might eventually adopt this strategy as a standard. Realme will likely make a similar change to the update cycle soon. Outside of the Android ecosystem, Apple provides 5 years of significant updates for iPhones.
Aside from this, Brand has stated that the current ColorOS 13 skin has been rolled out faster than previous versions. Since August 2022, it has been rolled out to 33 smartphones, making it the fastest and biggest update in ColorOS‘ history. Among the new features in ColorOS 13 are:
- Anamorphic design.
- Always-on-Display (AOD) changes.
- Privacy features (including screenshot pixelation).
