Apple India website now reveals that the Watch is all set to enter the Indian market just ahead of Delhi on 6 November. The Apple watch page on the India website now states ‘Available 6/11’.
Though the availability details are out, the company is still tight lipped on the prices of the various Watch models. The smartwatch was announced last year in September, and hit store shelves in April this year in most countries.
Launched in three variants – Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition – and two sizes (38 mm and 42 mm), the Apple Watch starts at $349 that is approximately Rs 23,000. The prices go way upwards up to $17,000 that is approximately Rs 11 lakhs.
Apple Watch is the first new product category to be launched ever since Tim Cook took over the reins of the company after Steve Jobs stepped down. It is also the first new device category since 2010, when Apple entered the tablet market with its iPad.
Apple Watch serves as a timepiece and can be personalised with watch faces ranging from traditional analog such as the Chronograph face, Modular face, animated butterflies and jellyfish on the Motion face. It goes beyond telling time with specialised functions on the watch face such as the sunrise/sunset, upcoming calendar events or daily activity level. Users can simply swipe up from the watch face for ‘Glances’ that quickly show you information you care about. It could be anything from weather forecast and current location to the music you’re listening to.
For health and fitness, it comes with the Activity app that gives simple visual snapshot of your daily activity with three rings that measure active calories burned, brisk activity and how often you stand or take a break. Using the Workout app, it also provides detailed metrics required during workout sessions for activities like walking, running and cycling.
It works with the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.2 or later. iOS 8.2 is available for download.
While India will finally get the Apple Watch, reports about its successor coming sometime mid of next year are already out.
