Rockstar Games has once again changed course, officially confirming that Grand Theft Auto VI will not meet its earlier release window. The studio announced on its official X account that the new release date is November 19, 2026, pushing the game even further down the road.
The game was originally expected to arrive in Fall 2025, before being GTA 6 delayed to May 26, 2026. Fans took that GTA 6 delay in stride, hoping it would be the last. But now, with this new six-month push, GTA 6 is nearly a full year behind its first schedule.
In a brief statement, Rockstar said,
“We understand the extended anticipation and sincerely regret stretching the wait further. However, these additional months will ensure the experience reaches the exceptional standard our players have come to expect and deserve.”
Take-Two CEO on the GTA 6 Delay
During a conversation with The Game Business, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick shared insight into the latest GTA 6 delay.
“When we announce a date, we believe in it completely,” Zelnick explained. “But if achieving perfection takes more time, we’ll always take that time. That’s exactly what happened here.”
He emphasized that the decision fits within Take-Two’s fiscal plans and long-term strategy. “This new timeline still lands within our fiscal year and supports a strong release window. We fully back Rockstar’s choice to focus on refinement,” he added.
When asked about the long gap before release, Zelnick offered further explanation:
“It might seem far away, but in development terms, it’s not. A project of this size requires plenty of preparation before launch, especially when planning global marketing efforts. We want to give players clarity, consistency, and confidence in what’s ahead. We’re standing behind this date.”
A Hopeful Outlook for Fans
The news may be disappointing for fans who have been waiting nearly a decade for the next Grand Theft Auto, but there could be a small upside. Rockstar might release a new trailer or gameplay footage soon to keep the excitement alive. When the last GTA 6 delay was announced, the company followed it with the latest visuals and updates to maintain hype.
Although nothing is confirmed, many expect a new look at GTA 6 in the near future. Fans are eager to see how the game’s development is progressing and what surprises Rockstar still has in store.
The Long Wait for Perfection
Waiting has never been easy, especially for a series as influential as Grand Theft Auto. Yet Rockstar’s history shows that patience usually pays off. Each previous title set a new standard for storytelling, open-world design, and technical polish.
If the studio’s past is any indication, these extra months could make a real difference in delivering a game that exceeds expectations. As frustrating as the GTA 6 delay may be, most fans agree that a polished GTA 6 is worth the wait.
