5G Smartphone Sales: Last year, 5G phones were all the trend, and it appears that the hype has finally paid off. According to a recent Counterpoint Research research, 5G smartphone sales overtook 4G smartphone sales in January 2022 for the first time. It has been discovered that global 5G smartphone sales accounted for 50% of total sales, which is higher than sales of 4G phones. Here are the specifics.
The iPhone 12 was a prominent name in this!
According to the report, North America and Western Europe accounted for 73% and 76% of all 5G smartphone purchases, respectively. The iPhone 12, which was the first iPhone to include 5G capability, is a major name in the evolution of the 5G phones market. These regions are likely to contribute even more to the rising number of 5G phone sales in the future.
With an 84% in January 2022, China has the greatest worldwide 5G adoption. This change is said to be the result of “The push for 5G from Chinese telecom operators, combined with the readiness of OEMs to supply competitively priced 5G smartphones to consumers.“
This accomplishment also includes the release of low-cost 5G devices featuring MediaTek and Qualcomm chipsets. In January, these phones accounted for one-fifth of all 5G purchases.
According to the study, “Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Latin America are the next focus areas for OEMs to increase 5G penetration. 5G models in the sub-$150 price segment are the sweet spot for these regions, which are currently dominated by 4G.“
Smartphones from Samsung, Xiaomi, Realme, and even Poco have seen similar success. Even though 5G phones are selling like hotcakes, this is remarkable given that 5G has yet to come in India. We expect it to happen in India by the end of this year or in 2023, and we can expect 5G phone sales to skyrocket.
