Lumia 830, Microsoft’s affordable flagship

After Sony, Microsoft is the next to launch its latest flagship at the IFA – Nokia Lumia 830. The company calls it an affordable flagship priced around €330 in Europe – translating to approximately Rs 26,200 – that will begin shipping this month. It will be available in orange, green, white and black colour options.
Needless to say, it runs Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1, with Cortana applicable only in select markets. Cortana is now limited to the US, but it is likely to hit the UK markets by October. The new Lumia Denim update for the OS now promises improved speed and camera abilities. You will also find the company’s popular software suite including Office and OneDrive.
Unlike the rumoured 4.7-inch display, the device goes the phablet way with a 5-inch display. On the camera front, it gets a 10MP Pure View rear snapper that is capable of recording 4k videos. Other specs include quad-core Snapdragon chipset, 16GB, expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot, Zeiss optics with its thinnest OIS module yet and Rich Capture that lets you expose darker areas of an image and add an LED flash effect after you’ve taken an image. All of this is fuelled by a 2,200mAh battery.
The Lumia 830 measures 8.5mm and weighs 150 grams. With this device, the company claims to bring an affordable smartphone with high-end features to take on the iPhone 5s. As expected, the device also supports wireless charging and comes with removable plate.
