Chromecast is a Google dongle for TVs that allows users to stream multimedia content from other devices to their televisions. It was launched in India in 2014. The new and updated Chromecast, along with Chromecast Audio were launched in India today.
The old Chromecast was a chunky device that looked like a bloated pen drive. The new Chromecast has a more aesthetically pleasing round form factor. The connector is a flexible extension that allows the Chromecast to be connected near overcrowded interface slots. The Wi-Fi implementation has been updated to comply with the latest standards. The wireless casting is also more streamlined now, adapting quicker to changing Wi-Fi conditions, to deliver uncompromising video quality with minimal buffering.
Chromecast Audio is a device meant for audio enthusiasts. It connects to a speaker set up, allowing you to cast audio to speakers while maintaining mobility on the cellular phone. Chromecast works with iOS, Android devices or laptops. The new Chromecast and the Chromecast Audio are available in online marketplaces such as Flipkart and Snapdeal, as well as retail outlets such as Croma and Reliance Digital. Both the devices are priced at a modest Rs. 3399.
The Chromecast App also received an upgrade. Discovering Cast enabled apps and services are now easier, with the addition of personalised listing of tech products that users might be interested in based on their activity history. The app is available on iOS and Android.
