As part of its new naming convention that began with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 mobile platforms. The “mid-tier and mass-volume category” is the target market for the new SoCs.
Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 Specifications
For the 4-series chipset, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 mobile platform’s 6nm manufacturing technology represents a first. It guarantees a 15% improvement in CPU performance with an octa-core architecture and up to 2.0GHz clock rates. Compared to the Snapdragon 480 SoC, the GPU has been improved by up to 10%.
In terms of photography, the chipset enables, among other things, the Qualcomm Spectra Triple ISP, up to 108MP resolution, Multi-Frame Noise Reduction (MNFR), and enhanced Autofocus. Additional features like as up to 1080p video playback and the Qualcomm AI Engine are also included.
Additionally, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 comes with Qualcomm FastConnect 6200, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ Technology, and Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System for speedier 5G. Additionally, there is support for Full HD+ displays with refresh rates of up to 120Hz, AI-based echo cancellation, background noise reduction, Bluetooth 5.2, Qualcomm Aqstic technology/Qualcomm aptX audio playback compatibility, and NFC.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 Specifications
The 4nm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is a mid-range processor designed for gaming. In comparison to the Snapdragon 695 SoC, it is expected to deliver up to 35% better GPU performance and 40% better overall performance. The clock speed can reach 2.2GHz. It supports the Qualcomm AI Engine 7th Generation and the Qualcomm Sensing Hub 3rd Generation for three times higher AI performance.
The Qualcomm Spectra triple 12-bit ISP supports up to 200MP cameras, as well as Multi-frame Noise Reduction (MFNR) and an AI-Based De-Noising Engine (AIDE). You will also be able to capture computational HDR footage.
Other features include a 120Hz Full HD+ display, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System with Sub-6 and mmWave compatibility, the Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 system, Wi-Fi 6E support, NFC, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ Technology. It also supports LPDDR5 RAM, a first for the Snapdragon 6-series.
Availability
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 will power smartphones in Q3, 2022, with the iQOO Z6 Lite being the first to receive it. It will be available in India on September 14.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will be available in phones in Q1 2023, and Motorola has announced that a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 phone will be available next year.
