Snapdragon Night has been announced by Qualcomm
Qualcomm just announced its forthcoming Snapdragon Night event in China on Weibo. It will take place on May 20th at 8 p.m. local time (5:30 PM IST). Qualcomm did not directly reference the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ or Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipsets, but it did indicate that a new Snapdragon mobile platform will be unveiled. Qualcomm’s post is shown in the screenshot below.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ chipset, codenamed SM8475, is likely to be built on TSMC’s 4nm architecture shortly. It is believed to contain an ARM Cortext-X2 Prime core and offer a 10% boost in CPU performance as well as a slight GPU increase over its predecessor. Also predicted is improved thermal performance.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC is projected to have an octa-core CPU that is less expensive than the flagship-grade SD 8 Gen 1 or 8 Gen 1+. According to sources, it will include four ARM Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.36GHz and four ARM Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The 7 Gen 1 SoC is likely to include an Adreno 662 GPU. It will most likely succeed last year’s Snapdragon 778G+ processor.
Smartphones from Oppo, Motorola, Xiaomi, and other market OEMs are expected to be powered by the future Snapdragon CPUs. The Oppo Reno 8, which is set to be released on May 23, may use the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC, but the Motorola Frontier, Xiaomi 12 Ultra, and many other flagship-level handsets are slated to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC.
