Even though we’re still two weeks away from a market launch of the Galaxy S5, popular Android developer Chainfire has rooted Samsung’s latest flagship phone and released his signature CF-Auto-Root root solution. According to his Google+ post, Chainfire has had access to a stock firmware for some days now, but since his “usual contact” can no longer test root on pre-release devices due to the fact that he also needs to test Samsung’s root-unfriendly KNOX, it’s only today that the root solution has actually been published after testing was done on what is supposedly a retail firmware.
Only the international model (Snapdragon-powered, model number SM-G900F) is supported at the moment, though variants of CF-Auto-Root for other models should be out shortly after the phone makes its way to consumers post April 11. You can download the necessary files at the source link and be ready to root as soon as you get yours hands on a Galaxy S5. As always, remember that rooting will void your warranty, most likely permanently as was the case with the Galaxy Note 3, by tripping your flash counter – we can expect Chainfire to release an update to his TriangleAway app to reset the flash counter, though that could take time given Samsung’s increased security measures against software modification.
