Galaxy Z Flip 8: The Snapdragon 8s Elite Gen 5 is shaping up to become the second processor crafted through Samsung’s emerging 2 nm blueprint, a frontier where Samsung Foundry has been laboring to rival the long commanding presence of TSMC. Fresh revelations hint that Samsung seeks to narrow this technological chasm by forging a deeper alliance with Qualcomm, crafting a Samsung-built Snapdragon chipset that could debut inside the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
Snapdragon 8s Elite Gen 5 is forecasted to roll out from Samsung’s fabs
Counterpoint Research dispatches first echoed by Yonhap in Korea indicated that Samsung Foundry is planning to begin shipments of Snap-dragon 8s Elite Gen 5 in the first half of 2026, which silicon is expected to be a refined version of the TSMC crafted Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Early whispers indicate it may energize the forthcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8. Curiously, this processor might not earn the title of Samsung’s inaugural 2 nm marvel. That’s a surprise, given that the Exynos 2600, the chip that will run the Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus, would not be on the list to make it to the show of fame at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in February.
A prior Geekbench sighting of the Exynos 2600 revealed performance results grazing the territory held by the Snap-dragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This strengthens the possibility that Samsung’s 2 nm Snap-dragon 8s Elite Gen 5, built around third-generation Oryon cores, could rival or even eclipse its 3 nm TSMC forged counterpart.

For Samsung Foundry, securing Qualcomm’s confidence would signal a watershed moment. Yield troubles have long shadowed its progress and kept it trailing far behind TSMC. To fortify its campaign, Samsung is reportedly preparing to widen its production capacity. More reports also suggest that the company has cut prices significantly on its 2 nm wafers, which costs nearly one third in costs, in an attempt to divert prospective customers away from TSMC. Counterpoint Research notes that by the second quarter of 2025, TSMC held almost 7% of the market and Samsung held close to 8%.
Early whispers around the Galaxy Z Flip 8 propose that Samsung is mapping out substantial refinements for its compact foldable, mirroring the transformation it delivered to the Z Fold lineup this year. In addition to a more svelte frame, a muscular engine such as the Snapdragon 8s Elite Gen 5 could anchor the device’s next evolutionary step.
More threads of information about the Snapdragon 8s Elite Gen 5 are expected to surface as 2026 approaches and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 edges toward its anticipated July launch. Qualcomm is also rumored to be preparing two Snap-dragon 8 Elite Gen 6 editions, possibly crafted using TSMC’s upcoming 2 nm manufacturing process.
