Eye-scanner technology and Samsung rumours have been around for a long time. It was first rumoured that the Samsung Galaxy S4 would use software that would allow the front-facing camera to track users’ eyes movement and perform actions automatically.
The Galaxy S4 eventually came with Smart Scroll and Smart Pause. The feature allowed the smartphone to detect if users are not looking at the smartphone and would pause a video. Smart Scroll allowed users to scroll through content on the screen such as email with face movements and wrist gestures.
Now it seems Samsung is taking eye-scanner technology and software to the next level and it could be used to keep the smartphone secure. SamsungExynos twitter account tweeted out the following, which gives a hint at this technology:

From the looks of the picture release, it looks like Samsung’s new feature would scan a users eye to pay bills at the grocery store, electricity bills, mobile bills etc. Currently the Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a fingerprint scanner which can be used to make mobile payments via PayPal. If one recalls, the S5 was also touted to come with an eye scanner, that was dropped at the last minute.
So where are we likely to see this feature? According to rumours, it could be seen in the Galaxy Note 4 device which will be launched at IFA 2014 this year in September in Berlin.
BGR reported that “the combination of an image of a smartphone with an eye and something of a tracking target around it, along with the text “unlock the future,” has led to some fairly obvious speculation: Samsung’s next big smartphone — the Galaxy Note 4 — will include an eye scanner.”
As premium smartphones struggle in the market, it’s evident that the creators of these devices need to offer some new oomph factor for consumers, who are literally spoilt for choice. And from the looks of it, biometrics could be the next big frontier, at least for Samsung.
