Sandes Instant Messaging App: In February, the Indian government introduced “Sandes,” a new messaging app that serves as a WhatsApp alternative for government personnel. This Made-in-India texting app is now available to the general public, according to CNBC-TV18.
Sandes Messaging App: Is It a Good WhatsApp Substitute?
According to the app’s description, “Sandes is an open source-based indigenous instant messaging platform created by NIC, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India to promote instant messaging communication in Government organizations.”
A phone number is required to create a new account on Sandes. After you’ve verified your phone number with an OTP, you’ll be able to choose your name, gender, and profile image. While the name field is compulsory, the gender and profile photo fields are optional.
Chats, Contacts, Groups, and Account settings are all located at the bottom of the page. As you can see in the screenshot below, you may also provide feedback within the app.
You can access app settings, switch off read receipts, log out, or even deactivate your account from the account settings page. If you’re interested, Sandes also allows you to connect your Aadhaar account.
In terms of privacy, Sandes provides end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) communications and encrypted backups, according to the app description. Sandes, on the other hand, openly notes in its privacy policy that the software gathers metadata. This includes the sender’s and receiver’s identities, as well as the date, time, and size of instant or group messaging, as well as the date, time, and length of voice and video calls.
