WhatsApp has recently introduced new features to its popular messaging app. Following the recent release of the option to secretly exit groups (through Twitter), the company is now testing the ability to add new members to group chats. WhatsApp has been increasing the group member capacity over time, and another increase is coming.
WhatsApp Groups may now have a maximum of 1,024 members.
For the longest time, WhatsApp users could only add up to 256 participants to a group discussion. This restriction was raised to 512 people just a few months ago, along with the release of a new WhatsApp calling UI and the ability to have up to 32 participants in an audio conversation.
According to a new WABetaInfo source, the messaging app is planning to increase the group member limit once again. WhatsApp tries adding up to 1,024 individuals in a single group conversation in the recent Android and iOS beta (version 2.22.21.74) release. It seems to be another significant step toward launching the Communities feature on the messaging app in the coming months.
You will notice the further 1,024-person restriction when establishing a new WhatsApp group, as illustrated in the pictures above. However, you must be one of the excellent beta testers to whom the functionality has been pushed out. We independently verified these claims; however, the functionality is unavailable to us – not on the iOS or Android beta.
Aside from increasing the number of group chat members, WhatsApp is also working on the ability to display a list of pending group invites. As a result, the admins can view fresh invites and approve your request to join a group. But the ability to create polls inside WhatsApp is a new future feature that we are most enthusiastic about. Yes, the messaging app is also trying poll creation with a small group of users in beta, so keep a watch out for that.
There is no official word on when the WhatsApp Groups feature will be available. Still, the business is actively working on additional group-related features to provide a more comprehensive experience.
