Apple has revealed the iPhone 17 at its “Awe Dropping” event at Apple Park. Tim Cook introduced the device as the new standard model in the iPhone family. It ships with iOS 26 out of the box and runs on the new A19 processor, a step up from last year’s A18. The phone promises faster performance, better cameras, and a stronger focus on useful features. Apple has also added its Apple Intelligence system, which puts AI tools directly into daily use.

iPhone 17 Price and Availability
The iPhone 17 starts at $799 in the United States with 256GB of storage. A 512GB version costs more. In India, the starting price is ₹82,900. Buyers can pick from Lavender, Mist Blue, Sage, White, or Black. Pre-orders open on September 12, and deliveries begin on September 19.
Design and Display
The iPhone 17 carries a larger 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen. For the first time in a non-Pro iPhone, it features ProMotion with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen also reaches 3,000 nits of peak brightness. Apple protects the front with its second-generation Ceramic Shield. The always-on display arrives on the base iPhone for the first time. The phone is also IP68 certified for dust and water resistance.
Cameras and Imaging
The back of the iPhone 17 holds two 48MP Fusion cameras. The primary sensor has an f/1.6 aperture with sensor-shift OIS and can simulate a 2x telephoto view. The second is an ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and macro support. On the front, Apple adds a redesigned selfie camera with Centre Stage, keeping users in frame during calls and videos.
Performance and Hardware
The new A19 chip is the main highlight. Apple pairs it with a 16-core Neural Engine for faster AI tasks and smoother performance. The company claims up to 40 percent faster CPU speeds compared to the iPhone 16. Storage now starts at 256GB, with the 128GB base option gone. Apple Intelligence runs on the device, enabling features like text summaries, image edits, and thoughtful suggestions.
Battery and Charging
Apple says the iPhone 17 lasts up to eight hours longer than the iPhone 16. Charging speeds are also quicker. A ten-minute charge gives up to eight hours of use, while half a charge can be restored in just minutes.
Final Thoughts
The iPhone 17 may be the entry model, but it carries features that once belonged only to Pro devices. The A19 processor, brighter display, improved cameras, and Apple Intelligence make it one of the strongest base iPhones to date.
