Speculation about a new WhatsApp feature has circulated through beta channels and insider reports. Now, WhatsApp has quietly begun early public testing of its Guest Chats, letting users exchange messages with people who do not have the app installed.
The experiment is starting to reach a few beta testers in circles on both Android and iOS. Although still limited in scope, the feature suggests a subtle yet meaningful expansion in how conversations can occur on the platform.

WhatsApp Guest Chats Start Small Testing For Android and IOS
According to WABetaInfo, the Guest Chats feature is rolling out in WhatsApp Beta version 2.25.22.13 for Android and iOS users. The mechanism is simple. A Whats-App user can create a unique invitation link from their contact list and send it to someone not on the platform.
Once the recipient taps the invitation, something interesting happens. Instead of redirecting to an app store to install Whats-App, the link opens a browser window to a simplified version of Whats-App Web. The guest simply types in a display name and is suddenly in the conversation.
But the experience is deliberately downplayed
The guest session supports text messages only. Rich features like media, voice notes, calls, and GIFs are missing. The interaction is purely conversational and one-to-one. There are no discussion groups in this temporary corridor.
There is also an inbuilt life span. If the conversation is inactive for ten days, the thread expires. To reconnect, the original user must generate a new invitation link. The dialogue then starts afresh.
Security Procedures and Identity Warnings
Despite its temporary nature, WhatsApp has maintained its signature end-to-end encryption in these guest exchanges. This means that only the sender and receiver can read messages, as they are protected from anyone else, including WhatsApp itself.
That said, WhatsApp is also putting some obvious warning signs along the road. Since guest users do not have authenticated Whats-App accounts, the application displays a notice that the guest’s identity cannot be verified. If an invitation link is distributed publicly, technically, anyone can access the chat room.
To help overcome confusion, the platform clearly labels guest participants. The person who creates the link fully controls the session and can block the guest from joining at any time. Furthermore, the platform restricts the guest’s movement within WhatsApp. They can message only the person who created their unique invitation link.
One Small Feature With Potentially Big Implications
At first glance, the Guest Chats may seem small, even limited. Yet its purpose is very strategic. It opens a communication channel for situations where one would like to reach a person who does not use WhatsApp at all.
Think of quick business questions, short-term coordination, or brief conversations. These are not worth asking someone to download another messaging application.
The feature is still in early testing, so we almost certainly expect changes. If the rollout proceeds smoothly, Whats-App will open up to a broader user base in the coming months.
